Freshmen Orientation

KICK-OFF PROGRAM
Comprehensive Freshmen Orientation & Freshmen Mentoring Program

“Finis origine pendet”  ("The end depends on the beginning.")  Manlius, Roman Poet

Nearly every high school does some sort of orientation for their incoming freshmen. But in many schools it consists primarily of a tour of the building, counselors discussing course options, and administrators “lecturing” the incoming freshmen on the rules and regulation of the school.

But does that really address the questions and concerns coming from the freshmen and their parents? The freshmen want to know what high school is REALLY like and they want to hear it from students, not teachers, counselors, or administrators.

Our new KICK-OFF program provides a comprehensive, proactive and positive introduction to Edward Little High School to both our new students and their parents.

Studies indicate that most freshmen enter high school being anxious about losing their way, arriving to class on time, remembering the location of their locker and the order of their classes. This anxiety can get in the way of the major issues and have a negative impact on the quality of the learning environment. The success or failure of a smooth transition to high school can have a dramatic impact on the remaining
years of education and career path of each of our freshmen.

Schools in many state have begun to address this by instituting a comprehensive orientation program that includes upper class mentors. Whether these mentors are used for a one-day orientation day or a full year mentoring activities, the results have been overwhelmingly positive.

Getting off to a good start in high school can make all the difference.

The end depends on the beginning!!
