Counseling

The Guidance Office at ELHS is staffed by four state certified professional school counselors who have earned a Master's Degree. School counselors abide by the American School Counselor Association Code of Ethics.  Parents and students can rest assured that discussions with their counselor are confidential and protected by Maine Law with the exception of suspected child abuse/neglect, harm to self or others, or when required by a court to do so.

Counselors provide free short-term counseling for a variety of development issues and can assist in making referrals for more ongoing mental health needs.

The school also has a partnership with several area agencies who have placed clinical counselors in our building for students with more ongoing mental health needs.  In partnership with St. Mary's School Based Health Center, we have a full time licensed clinical social worker, who accepts referrals as needed.

The school has also partnered with Spurwink Services and Health Affiliates Maine to assist students and families with long term clinical counseling.

Any interested student or family should contact their school counselor in the Guidance Office to set up a referral.  Families will be billed by the agency for these counseling services, however clinicians accept health insurance.  Please contact your health insurance provider for more information.

A representative from the Sexual Assault Response Services is available to meet with students or parents on Tuesday mornings in the Health Center.  See your counselor for more information.
